APG Announces Recipients of 2022 Standards of Excellence™

October 31, 2022

Washington, DCSeventy-two of its member physician groups earned the coveted “Elite” status in America’s Physician Groups’ (APG’s) 2022 Standards of Excellence™ (SOE®) program, the organization announced today. The SOE® program is an annual, comprehensive survey administered by APG that evaluates the coordinated care infrastructure and value-based care performance of the organization’s physician group members.

“’Elite’ status signifies that these APG members are fully equipped with the necessary capabilities to thrive in value-based care models, and to take accountability and responsibility for the costs and quality of health care,” said APG President and CEO Susan Dentzer, MS. “We’re especially pleased that six of these organizations have newly achieved Elite status this year. That tells us that the ranks of top-performing value-based care practices led by physicians are only growing.”

Now in its 15th year, the SOE® survey assesses organizations based on five rigorous categories:

  • Care Management Practices
  • Patient-Centered Care
  • Information Technology
  • Group Support of Advanced Primary Care
  • Accountability and Transparency

Each year, APG’s Clinical Quality Leadership Committee adds new elements to each category to set a higher standard than the previous year, in line with both rising national healthcare standards and increased expectations of government agencies, purchasers, payors, and patients. Participants in the annual SOE® survey receive between zero and five stars based on their performance delivering risk-based, coordinated care in the five categories. This year APG collaborated with PRC on the application, analysis, scoring, and review of the SOE® survey.

The SOE® program is open to all of APG’s more than 335 physician group members. This year, 84 medical groups, health systems, and independent practice associations (IPAs) within APG’s membership participated in the voluntary survey. Collectively, these groups cover approximately 17 million people with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid.

This year’s SOE® Elite-status recipients will be formally recognized at the Transitions 2022: APG Colloquium in Washington, DC.
