APG Committees

Our members learn and share knowledge and resources through a variety of committee and regional meetings. These meetings take place regularly and help address focused topics and regional issues of member groups.

ACO REACH Coalition

This special coalition is for current and potential ACO REACH participants and is an opportunity to exchange information, share best practices, and collaborate on advocacy opportunities that will strengthen your experience under ACO Reach.

ACO-MSSP Coalition

Staff Coordinator: Jennifer Podulka, Vice President of Federal Policy

This learning collaborative is dedicated to accelerating the value movement and developing the next iteration of Advanced Alternative Payment Models (Advanced APMs). APG and ACO MSSP Coalition members are committed to the proliferation of accountable care that better utilizes resources through the delivery of high-quality, coordinated healthcare services to patients and communities.

The Coalition offers physician groups engaged in two-sided risk models an opportunity to improve their performance in their current programs and influence the development of new models. The Coalition will support APG members and focus on the dual purpose of improving current risk-based models and helping develop and prepare APG members for new models to come.

California Policy Coalition

Staff Coordinator: Bill Barcellona, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs

The Policy Committee is comprised of APG California-based Board members, who have voting rights to bind the Association to specific policy positions under our Bylaws. Each meeting features a two-hour in-person section with the Board members, and then a general, one-hour webinar and telephonic briefing to our general membership.

Clinical Quality Leadership (CQL) Forum

Staff Coordinator: Jennifer Jackman, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development

The CQL Committee is comprised of senior clinical leaders of APG’s physician organizations. The CQL is charged with the following duties:

  • Standards of Excellence: Oversee the content and weighting of the annual survey. Evaluate scoring distribution and recommend threshold points to the Board of Directors.
  • Discuss topics of clinical interest relating to the quadruple aim and physician quality performance improvement efforts.
  • Serve as a clinical leadership forum in which to address the changing relationships in the health care industry, emerging markets, and challenges of health care reform.

The committee will meet at least twice yearly to discuss actionable solutions for challenging topics in the changing landscape of national health care. The committee will use its expertise to advocate with specific stakeholders to support clinically meaningful processes and outcomes through coordinated care, and to serve as an educational resource for topics around innovation and technology, population health management, value-based contracts, and social behavioral determinants of health integration.

Contracts Forum

Staff Coordinator: Jennifer Jackman, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development

The mission of the Contracts Committee is to provide education and information about value-based care contracts to members through contract analysis, recommend and develop educational programs to improve contracting skills, and provide a forum for information-sharing within the law. The Committee will also coordinate with other Committees to suggest policy review as needed and will consult with health plans about contract innovation as requested. It is not the function of the Committee to act as an attorney rendering legal advice.

Executive Committee

Staff Coordinator: Susan Dentzer, MS, President and CEO

The Executive Committee oversees the administrative issues of America’s Physician Groups and reports to the Board on membership recruitment and admissions, budget and audit, the annual work plan, and helps the chair and staff develop the Association infrastructure. Between meetings of the Governing Board, the Executive Committee shall have and exercise the authority of the Board in the management of APG.

Federal Policy Committee

Staff Coordinator: Susan Dentzer, President and CEO

Federal Policy Committee meetings focus on technical suggestions to improve existing federal programs, laws, and regulations. This includes providing the Federal Affairs staff with specific “real world” guidance and metrics on federal comment letters, exploring future advocacy priorities, and sharing updates on current policy or proposed changes from congressional and administrative staff.

Governing Board

Staff Coordinator: Susan Dentzer, MS, President and CEO

The Governing Board is the guiding body of America’s Physician Groups activities. The Board approves members, budget and financials, and reviews/approves the major activities/focus of APG.

Health Equity and Social Justice Forum

Staff Coordinator: Lura Hawkins, MBA, Vice President of Member Services

This forum is designed to create new alliances, discuss undertakings, and share projects and tools related to health equity and social justice. Discussions will include:

  • Health Equity’s Impact on Patient Care
  • Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
  • Organizational Culture
  • Diversity in Staffing, Including Leadership

Human Resources Forum

Staff Coordinator: Lura Hawkins, MBA, Vice President of Member Services

This forum is for discussing human resource issues affecting physician groups, including compensation, employee benefits, recruitment, employment law, and market trends. The group conducts an annual National Physician Organization Compensation and Workforce Survey, providing a benchmark for risk-taking organizations.

Medicaid Coalition

Medicare Advantage Coalition

Pediatric Forum

Staff Coordinator: Lura Hawkins, MBA, Vice President of Member Services

The Pediatric Forum will discuss a variety of topics relating to pediatric health, including immunizations, chronic conditions, and a pediatric perspective on the Standards of Excellence survey.

Pharmaceutical Care Forum

Staff Coordinator: David Gonzalez, Senior Legislative Advocate

The Pharmaceutical Care Forum is composed of pharmacists, physicians, and other clinical leaders responsible for pharmacy management in their organizations. The group offers participants education on pharmacy/pharmacy benefit management, as well as on clinical quality measurement programs such as CMS Stars and HEDIS. Members work with health plans to produce an annual Commercial and Medicare Formulary Grid.

Restricted License Forum

Staff Coordinator: Bill Barcellona, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs

The “RKK Forum” is a separate body of APG members possessing or anticipating the Knox Keene Restricted License, that enables the entity to receive global capitation for institutional and professional services. Membership is comprised of APG members who agree to pay a separate dues surcharge. The Committee educates policymakers and advocates for the expansion of this model. The Committee meets on a non-routine schedule.

Risk Evolution Task Force

State Government Programs Forum

Staff Coordinator: Bill Barcellona, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs

This forum serves California APG Members that contract and care for Medicaid, dual-eligible, and special needs patients. Participants meet regularly to share information, support and discuss APG advocacy, and identify opportunities to promote quality, cost-effective healthcare in the public sector.
