CAPG Joins President, HHS Secretary at Health Care Network Launch

For Immediate Release
March 25, 2015

Washington, D.C.—CAPG President and CEO Donald Crane joined President Barack Obama, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell, and stakeholders including providers, insurers, and consumers at the White House today to kick off the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (“Network”).

The Network is part of HHS’s goal of moving 30 percent of Medicare fee-for-service payments to alternative, value-driven payment models by 2016 and 50 percent by 2018. Alternative payment models include accountable care organizations (ACOs), bundled payments, and advanced primary care medical homes.

“It was an honor to represent CAPG at the launch of the Network,” Crane said. “CAPG is a trade association whose physician group members have been committed to these coordinated, accountable delivery models for decades in other contexts, including Medicare Advantage. We’re very pleased that our mission is directly in line with the Administration’s vision for the future of U.S. health care.”

The Network will accelerate this transformation of national health care delivery by serving as a forum where members can share and learn best practices for transitioning towards value-based payment models.

“We believe Secretary Burwell’s value goals, supported by the Network, have tremendous opportunity to bring coordinated care to seniors in original Medicare,” Crane said.

“With CAPG’s long history of supporting physician practices that work in or want to transition to value-based payment models, our members have much to bring to the table,” he said.

“As one example, CAPG will publish its ninth Standards of Excellence™ survey results in June. Standards of Excellence™ is a blueprint for risk-bearing medical group characteristics and a tool used by CAPG to advance physician group readiness to adopt coordinated care delivery and risk-bearing financial models. We look forward to sharing this and other CAPG member learnings with Network members.”
