WASHINGTON — Federal District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy’s decision today blocking the Trump administration’s overhaul of federal vaccine policy is a victory for the rule of science, evidence-based medicine, and value-based health care, America’s Physician Groups said today.

As the judge wrote in his decision, the nation has built, over the years, “an apparatus that marries the rigors of science with the execution and force of the United States government.” The administration attempted to topple this apparatus, and in so doing, imperiled human health and human lives.

“We at APG are especially grateful that Judge Murphy cited the amici brief that APG and the American Association of Immunologists filed in the case,” said Susan Dentzer, President and Chief Executive Officer of America’s Physician Groups. “As the judge wrote, ‘Plaintiffs and amici have demonstrated that there is a substantial risk to public health absent preliminary relief. See, e.g., Dkt. 218 [the APG and AAI amici brief]’.”

APG is aware that this decision is but the first step in what could be prolonged litigation, Dentzer said. “For now, we are grateful that reason has prevailed, and that APG’s view – that recommended vaccines, proven to be effective in disease prevention, are key to the provision of accountable health care – has been fully vindicated.”
