Adam Barrison, MD, is President and Chief Physician Executive of Summit Health, a multispecialty medical group of more than 1,500 clinicians providing comprehensive primary and specialty care across New York and New Jersey. In this role, he oversees clinical strategy, physician leadership, and the continued evolution of Summit Health’s value-based care and population health initiatives. He also serves as President of Summit Health Cares, the organization’s philanthropic arm supporting community health, cancer research, and access-to-care programs throughout the communities Summit Health serves.
Dr. Barrison is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has practiced at Summit Health since 2001. He previously served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors before being named Chief Physician Executive in 2019 and was promoted to President in 2025. His administrative responsibilities include oversight of physician engagement, clinical operations, compensation design, quality and safety, medical professional liability, and the integration of affiliated physician groups. He is a board member of Diamond Hill Insurance, Summit Health’s captive risk retention group, and has been active in policy matters relating to physician practice, restrictive covenants, and ambulatory care delivery.
Dr. Barrison received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his gastroenterology fellowship at Boston University Medical Center. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
