Donnie Aga, M.D., is a board-certified internist who joined the Internal Medicine Department at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston, Texas, in 1997. He cares for patients at Kelsey-Seybold’s flagship Berthelsen Main Campus near the Texas Medical Center.
In June 2022, Dr. Aga was appointed to serve as the organization’s Chief Medical Officer.
In 2021, Dr. Aga was appointed to develop and lead provider programs to maintain the “Kelsey Culture” as the organization executes an aggressive five-year growth plan to double its current size and scale. He serves as lead physician for Mergers and Acquisition strategies and activities with a focus on primary care private-practice physicians interested in integrating with the Kelsey-Seybold health system through retirement succession, affiliation, or acquisition.
Past Leadership Roles and Experience
In 2016, Dr. Aga was named the Medical Director for Healthcare Innovation. In this role, he established the clinic’s Virtual Health platform and led Kelsey-Seybold’s virtual integration efforts to improve collaboration and efficiencies among Kelsey-Seybold’s more than 600 providers. His vision for Virtual Health launched primary care E-visits, adult and pediatric primary care and specialty Video Visits, and specialty E-consults. He served in this role through June 2022.
In 1999, Dr. Aga was appointed Associate Chief of the Internal Medicine Department. He was appointed Chief of Internal Medicine in 2002 and held the position through 2016. In his roles as Associate Chief and Chief of the department, he led quality improvement initiatives for the clinic and served on multiple committees, such as Clinical Planning, Coding and Compliance, Peer Review, and Medical Directors.
Dr. Aga served as Medical Director of KelseyCare Advantage from 2007 to 2020. He developed new and innovative programs focused on improving the overall quality of care while maintaining a superior patient experience. Integration of the KelseyCare Advantage Medicare Advantage plan with Kelsey-Seybold’s NCQA-recognized Accountable Care Organization was fundamental to the plan being awarded an overall 5-star Medicare rating for six consecutive years (2017 to 2022). KelseyCare Advantage is one of three Medicare Advantage plans in the nation to achieve a 5-star rating for six consecutive years or more. KelseyCare Advantage is also recognized by US News as one of Texas’ Best Medicare Advantage health plans for six consecutive years (2017 to 2022).
Dr. Aga received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in chemistry. He completed his medical degree and residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He’s a member of the American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association.
