John Lovelady serves as CEO of Optum Health South region, which includes the WellMed, Optum
and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic care delivery organizations. John’s role includes oversight of all regional
and functional business teams with a focus on serving the clinicians who care for nearly three million
patients.
He brings deep understanding of managed care, value-based networks, and care delivery with over
28 years at UnitedHealth Group.
John joined Optum Health in 2018 as executive vice president of strategic business operations for
WellMed, where he led teams responsible for the Texas/Florida markets, at-home patient care
programs, payer and partner relationships, growth, and innovation.
Prior to joining Optum Health, John held several roles at UnitedHealthcare including CEO for
UnitedHealthcare’s Medicaid and dual special needs division in the south and regional president of
network.
John holds a master’s degree in health care delivery science from Dartmouth College, an MBA from
Texas State University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Texas Tech University.
