Dr. John Rhodes is a seasoned healthcare executive and board-certified family physician with over three decades of clinical, operational, and leadership experience. As President and CEO of Optum Nevada and Southwest Medical, he leads one of the largest integrated multispecialty medical groups in the region, overseeing strategic growth, clinical excellence, and value-based care delivery across Nevada.
A native of Las Vegas, Dr. Rhodes, earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed his residency at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital where he also served as Chief Resident. He later received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, blending clinical insight with business acumen to drive innovation in healthcare.
Before joining Optum, Dr. Rhodes co-founded Canyon Trails Family Practice and Sports Medicine, where he provided comprehensive care including hospital rounds, surgical assistance, and nursing home services. His career spans leadership roles in both medical and business sectors, including executive positions at Harmony Homes, Rhodes Homes and Optum Nevada.
Dr. Rhodes is deeply committed to community service and education. He has served on numerous boards, including the Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada, Summerlin Hospital Board of Governors, and Canyon Ridge Christian Church Elders Board. He has also contributed to academic programs at Faith Lutheran MS/HS, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas, helping to develop inclusive education initiatives for students with intellectual disabilities.
His contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Compassionate Care Award from the Lili Claire Foundation, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine from Nevada Business Magazine.
Dr. Rhodes is a husband, father of four, and grandfather to four. He enjoys outdoor sports, attending local sporting events, and hosting family BBQs. He believes, “The greatest privilege we receive as physicians is having a patient trust their health to our care, and we can never let them down or take that privilege for granted.”
